Burlington, NC – On August 3rd 2023, Officers with the Burlington Police Department responded to a missing person report. David Melo Barreria, 51-year-old male, was last seen on 08/03/2023 at 08:00 a.m. walking towards Kemco’s gas station at 507 Graham Hopedale Road in Burlington, North Carolina.
David is described as a white male, five-foot eight inch tall, weighing 160 lbs. Information about what he was last seen wearing was not available. David is believed to be suffering from a cognitive impairment which increases his chances of being injured or hurt. He is currently listed as a missing endangered person.

On Monday, August 7, 2023, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU), began an investigation of a school administrator allegedly involved in misconduct with a student.
SVU Investigators conducted interviews and gathered evidence during the initial investigation. As a result of their discovery, Investigators arrested Assistant Southern Alamance Middle School Principal James Tyler Kelly. Mr. Kelly was taken into custody at a residence in High Point, NC by ACSO Investigators and the High Point Police Department. Mr. Kelly was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.
Investigators determined the alleged misconduct did not occur on ABSS school property.
Mr. Kelly was previously Assistant Principal at Southern Alamance High School before being transferred to Southern Alamance Middle School in June.
This case remains under investigation.

Burlington, NC | The wanted suspect in the Select Bank armed robbery case was arrested Friday, August 4, 2023, in Caswell County. Jimmy Nathaniel Brown, a 61-year-old male from Yanceyville is currently being held in Caswell County under a $1,000,000.00 bond. Mr. Brown was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon by the Burlington Police Department. BPD expects to make additional charges in the coming days. Mr. Brown is also facing charges from the Danville Police Department in connection to another robbery.

Burlington, NC | Detectives with the Burlington Police Department have identified two suspects and made one arrest following the July 24 armed robbery at Select Bank. BPD requests public assistance in identifying the location of the second suspect.
The suspect in the robbery left Select Bank with an undisclosed amount of cash and communicated that he had left a bomb. The Greensboro Police Department Bomb Squad responded and was able to determine that there was no bomb. The bag left behind contained no weapons.
Video surveillance around the area of Select Bank quickly aided detectives in identifying the vehicle used to pick up the suspect and drive away. Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified the driver and owner of the vehicle as Kristian Baldwin, a 36-year-old female from Yanceyville, NC. The suspect was also identified as Jimmy Nathaniel Brown, a 61-year-old male from Yanceyville.
After identifying the two suspects, Burlington Police were able to connect the armed robbery in Burlington with an armed robbery in Danville, VA that occurred on July 20, 2023. Burlington Police Department worked with the Danville Police Department to compare investigations and were able to link the suspects in the cases from Select Bank in Burlington and Carter Bank & Trust in Danville.
On Friday, July 28, the Burlington Police Department, with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, State Bureau of Investigation, and Caswell County Sheriff’s Office arrested Baldwin and charged her with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. She was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center and received a $100,000 bond.
On August 1, 2023, the Burlington Police Department executed a search warrant at the home of Jimmy Brown. The Department is now seeking public assistance in identifying the location of Jimmy Brown.
It is likely that the two suspects will face charges from the Danville Police Department.

Burlington, NC | At approximately 9:30 pm on Tuesday, August 1, Burlington Police responded to a shooting in the parking lot area outside of the Carousel Cinemas.
One victim has been taken to a local hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound. Several vehicles in the parking lot were struck by gunfire. Currently, there is no active threat to the area.
No additional information is available at this time. Updates will be provided as the investigation continues.

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 8:18 p.m., Deputies conducted a traffic stop at W. Webb Ave. and Glen Raven Rd., Burlington, N.C. During the stop, Deputies discovered the driver, Albert Lee Woods, was driving while his license was permanently suspended.
While on the scene, a K9 indicated a positive alert of contraband during an open-air sniff of the vehicle. Deputies conducted a probable cause search finding heroin, cocaine, marijuana, multiple quantities of different types of pills, and a digital scale.
Mr. Woods was arrested and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center where he remains.

On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Investigators with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) were informed that a male caregiver of a minor was believed to be committing indecent liberties with a child.
During the investigation, SVU found probable cause existed to charge the caregiver identified as Billy Michael Daniels. Mr. Daniels was arrested on Thursday, July 27, 2023, and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

From July 7, 2023, to July 24, 2023, Administrators at Eastern Alamance High School reported three (3) break-ins to numerous outbuildings on the school’s campus near the athletic fields. Various items were reported stolen including a John Deere Gator UTV, backpack leaf blower, numerous gas cans, and a cooler.
As the investigation continued, Detectives developed Jacob Carl Beasley and his girlfriend, Ariel Marie DeAngelo, as suspects. As a result of a search warrant of the couple’s residence and vehicles, Detectives found and recovered the stolen property.
On Thursday, July 27, 2023, Mr. Beasley and Ms. DeAngelo were located by ACSO Patrol Deputies who conducted a traffic stop on the pair. Both were arrested and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing with additional charges possible.

On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Deputies received a report of a break-in at Ossipee Baptist Church on Old NC Hwy 87, Elon, NC. The reporting party told Deputies that a computer and music equipment were stolen.
On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, Deputies received a report of a break-in of outbuildings at Western Middle School on Eldon Dr., Elon, NC. The reporting party told Deputies that footballs and a water cooler were stolen.
During the investigations, Detectives determined that Jonathan Lynn Wright was the suspect in both break-ins. Detectives developed probable cause to request a search warrant. A search warrant was executed at the residence of Wright’s girlfriend. Detectives found property which was stolen from the Church and middle school.
Detectives secured warrants for Mr. Wright’s arrest but his whereabouts were unknown.
On Friday, July 28, 2023, Mr. Wright was arrested by the Burlington Police Department.
This case remains under investigation.

On Monday, July 24, 2023, at 3:43 a.m., Deputies conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Sandy Cross Rd. and Haw River Hopedale Rd. north of Burlington, N.C. The black Toyota Camry was stopped for an equipment violation, defective taillights.
During the stop, Deputies detected a strong odor of what was believed to be marijuana from the vehicle. The driver, Jimmy Walter Aguilar Zavala, was found to have been smoking marijuana. A K9 on scene indicated a positive alert during an open-air sniff.
Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle where baggies of marijuana along with a larger quantity of marijuana were located in a backpack. A digital scale was found in the center console. Deputies also learned that Mr. Zavala was driving a vehicle while his license was suspended.
Mr. Zavala was arrested and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

On Thursday, July 20, 2023, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) began an investigation in reference to a registered sex offender identified as Alberto Gamboa Sanchez. It was believed that Mr. Sanchez had several on-line identifiers which were not registered with the Sheriff’s Office as required by law. Sex offenders are required to notify the Sheriff’s Office of all online identifiers they use including social media platforms and online messaging platforms.
Investigators discovered several online posts of Mr. Sanchez working out at a local gym. The gym has a designated child care center for customers who are working out. Mr. Sanchez is prohibited from being at a location which provides child care. Detectives were then able to establish probable cause to charge Mr. Sanchez.
Mr. Sanchez was arrested on Friday, July 21, 2023 and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.

On Friday, July 14, 2023, Deputies were called to a residential construction site in the 6000 block of N. NC 49 Hwy., Mebane, N.C. in reference to larceny of tools and equipment. The homeowner advised Deputies that multiple tools as well as a pair of jeans and boots were stolen. The homeowner also advised that inside the jeans was an Apple AirTag that he was able to track. The homeowner gave a description of a male subject and vehicle as well as the last known location of the AirTag.
Patrol Deputies continued their investigation at a mini mart off of N. NC Hwy 119 where video footage was obtained. After review of the video, Deputies determined the suspect to be Jacob Carl Beasley. Deputies were familiar with Mr. Beasley and relocated to his residence where they spoke with him. Mr. Beasley admitted to Deputies that he did steal the tools and did not know about the AirTag. Mr. Beasley was arrested for this incident and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.
Five days later on Wednesday July 19, 2023, Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle accident on N. NC Hwy 49 near the Alamance/Orange County line. On arrival, Deputies recognized the driver of the truck as Jacob Carl Beasley. Mr. Beasley had gotten the truck stuck in the front yard of a residence. While speaking with Mr. Beasley, Deputies discovered that the vehicle in Mr. Beasley’s possession was stolen out of Orange County. Mr. Beasley was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
