On August 16, 2024 at approximately 11:17 p.m., the Burlington Police Department and Burlington Fire Department responded to a hit-and-run crash in the 2700 Block of Maple Ave involving a pedestrian on a bicycle. The pedestrian, Michael Blake Hensley, a 31-year-old white male from Burlington, succumbed to his injuries while on scene.
 
The attached photos show vehicles of interest that were in the area during the time of the incident.

Felony Charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor

In June 2025, members of the Invictus Task Force initiated an investigation related to multiple Cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. During the course of the investigation, Elijah Nathanael Beebe of Alamance County was identified as a suspect.

 

On November 05, 2025, Elijah Nathanael Beebe was taken into custody by the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and was transported to a detention center in N. Charleston, SC, where he was arraigned on eight (8) counts of Felony Second- Degree Exploitation of a Minor. Beebe is being held without bond, pending extradition back to Alamance County, North Carolina. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Invictus Task Force representatives.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 6:52 pm, the Burlington Communications Center (BCC) received multiple 911 calls reporting a dark Dodge Ram pickup driving recklessly with a woman attempting to jump from the moving vehicle. One of these calls originated from the Econo Lodge of Burlington which was believed to be connected to a domestic disturbance.
 
During the investigation, surveillance footage from several cameras showed a white female wearing a red shirt holding onto the bed of a Dodge Ram with a Virginia license tag. The vehicle was last seen near Maple Ave. approaching the I-40 East on-ramp. Individuals matching the description were later reported in the area of Highway 54 and Thom Rd. in southeastern Alamance County. Responding to the last known location given, Alamance County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Deputies did not locate the vehicle.
 
Burlington Police Officers requested assistance from the ACSO Strike Team. Investigative leads placed the suspect vehicle in the Carrboro area, prompting the ACSO Strike Team to request additional support from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Strike Team.
 
The joint strike team located the suspect vehicle near Chapel Hill. The driver, identified as Stephen Frost, was detained without incident. The female victim was not in the vehicle at the time of the stop, and efforts immediately shifted to locating her.
 
With assistance from the Mebane Police Department, the victim was found safely within the City of Mebane. She was uninjured and confirmed she had been taken against her will.
 
Frost was transported from Orange County and released to Burlington Police Department investigators. Mr. Frost was later transported to the Alamance County Detention Center where he remains.

Charges: 1ct: Felony Kidnapping, 1ct: Misdemeanor Careless and Reckless Driving
Bond: None
 
This successful apprehension and recovery were the result of exceptional teamwork between the Burlington Police Department, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mebane Police Department.
The Joint Strike Team consists of Deputies from the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, the Durham County Sheriff's Office and the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon Investigation
 
Burlington, NC | On November 4, 2025, at approximately 3:23 a.m., officers from the Burlington Police Department responded to Cruizers Gas Station, located at 728 N Church Street, in reference to a reported robbery. Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee who reported the suspect produced a firearm, demanding money. No injuries were reported.
 
The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6” to 6-6” tall, medium build, wearing a white mask, a faded pink hat, and a dark colored “forever blessed” hoodie, and blue jeans. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
 
There is no other information available at this time. Attached are photographs of the suspect recovered from the surveillance footage.

Burlington, NC | On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at approximately 3:33 p.m., officers from the Burlington Police Department responded to Food Lion, located at 2208 N. Church Street, in reference to a reported robbery.
 
Upon arrival, officers located the victim, who was unharmed. The victim reported being approached inside the store by a Black male who asked them to step outside to continue a conversation. Once in the parking lot, the suspect produced a firearm and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
 
The preliminary investigation describes the suspect as a Black male, of unknown height, and slender build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, white sneakers, a black and white baseball cap, and a gold necklace.
 
This investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

In September 2024, Detention Center Investigators became aware of the possible presence of contraband and narcotics within the facility.
 
During the investigation, two suspects were identified. On October 29, 2025, Investigators were granted a search warrant which was served at the residence of one of the suspects, ACSO Detention Officer, Alberta Hamm.
 
As a result of the search warrant, both suspects were arrested.

Mr. Robertson has been incarcerated since 2020 on murder charges under a $500,000 secured bond.
 
Sheriff Johnson said, “I will not tolerate this type of criminal activity or behavior within the ranks of the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office. We will clean our own ‘house’ swiftly and bring charges when necessary.

Burlington, NC | On October 14, 2025, the Burlington Police Department’s Opiate and Violent Crime Unit (OVCU) charged Christopher Jacob Tidwell, 29 years of age, of Burlington, North Carolina, with Death by Distribution following a six-month investigation into a fatal overdose that occurred in the 2500 block of South Church Street, Burlington NC on March 26, 2025.
Tidwell was currently being held on pending trafficking fentanyl charges that originated from the same investigation and additionally charged with Death by Distribution. He did not receive a bond in connection with those existing charges.
 
The Burlington Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to holding fentanyl traffickers accountable and pursuing justice for victims of overdose deaths. Fentanyl continues to be a leading cause of fatal overdoses across the nation, and the
Burlington Police Department will continue to work aggressively to identify and prosecute those who distribute this deadly substance.

Efland Man Attempts To Flee Deputies Facing Multiple Felony Charges
 
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 10:32 pm, Deputies observed a vehicle with an illegible paper license tag driving on N. Graham-Hopedale Rd. near Burlington, NC. Upon activating blue lights and siren, the driver attempted to flee. Deputies observed the vehicle repeatedly crossing the center, running stoplights and stop signs.
 
While on Hazel Dr. in Burlington, the vehicle began a slow roll at which point the driver exited and fled on foot towards a wooded area. The driver, identified as Isaiah Laczar Long, was apprehended after a brief foot chase.
 
Mr. Long was arrested and transported to the Alamance County Sheriff's Office.

Burlington, NC | Officers with the Burlington Police Department continued investigating a fight that occurred at a Cummings High School football game on October 10, 2025. At the game's conclusion, an active fight occurred on the field involving players. Pepper spray was used in an attempt to break up the fight. While attempting to control the scene, an Officer with the Burlington
Police Department was assaulted when a juvenile threw a football helmet at the officer, causing minor injuries. The name of the officer is not being released. The 16-year-old juvenile found to be responsible for the attack on the officer has been petitioned for Assault on a Government Official.


Officers were also able to clearly identify a separate assault during the altercation between two students. Officers have charged Victor Derrick Crisp Jr, an 18-year-old male, with Assault Inflicting Serious Injury for his role in the assault. Crisp was taken into custody without incident and received a $2,500 secured bond. The name of the victim is not being released and is expected
to recover.


The Burlington Police Department will not tolerate any criminal acts conducted by players, coaches, or community members during sporting events such as this. Participants in these acts will be investigated and criminally charged. This investigation is still ongoing, and additional
arrests could occur once the investigation is complete.

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 3:20 a.m., Deputies were dispatched to a ‘Shots Fired’ call at 1430 Florence St., Green Level, N.C.
 
On arrival, Deputies estimated that over 200 people, who attended a party at the location, were fleeing the scene seeking safety. In addition to the pedestrians, vehicles were blocking the road hampering first responders’ efforts to reach the victims.
 
After locating the crime scene, responding officers were informed that five people were injured by gunfire.

The wounded were triaged by Deputies and EMS based on the seriousness of their wounds. Two of the wounded left the scene and drove to the Flying J Truck Stop. EMS was called and transported both to a local hospital as were two victims from the scene of the shooting.
Two arrests have been made in this ongoing investigation.

Burlington, NC | Preliminary investigations revealed that an altercation between two groups of individuals in the parking lot of Beaumont Court Apartments escalated, leading to the shooting. The victim, a 33-year-old-female, was treated at a local hospital and has since been released. Following the investigation on October 1, 2025, two individuals identified, as Tyrrill Lamar Oliver, 33-year-old-male, and Khristopher Sean Walker, 28-year-old-male, were identified as participants in the incident. Both have been charged with Accessory after the Fact to Assault Inflicting Serious Injury.

On October 7, 2025, the Criminal Investigations Division executed a search warrant at a residence on Denise Dr. in Burlington, NC, as part of the ongoing investigation.

As a result, Demonte Raekwon Fuller, 29-year-old-male, was charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Distribute Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell and Distribute within 1,000 Feet from a Child Care Center, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill inflicting Serious Injury and Attempted Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. He was taken to Alamance County Jail and processed where he received no bond.

Burlington Man Arrested On Federal Firearms Charges

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Strike Team conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle in the town of Green Level, N.C.

During the traffic stop, Kawaun Lynn was found to have an active warrant issued by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for a Firearms related offense.

Mr. Lynn was taken into custody and transported to the Alamance County Detention Center. He was later transferred to the custody of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

On Friday, September 19, 2025, at approximately 9:30 a.m., investigators with the Alamance Narcotics Enforcement Team (ANET) executed a search warrant in the 1900 block Woodhue Dr., Burlington, North Carolina.
 
This investigation was initiated in response to a community complaint regarding suspected narcotics activity at the residence.
 
During the search, investigators arrested Robert Wayne Grooms, Jr. Mr. Grooms was charged with Trafficking Opium or Heroin, Maintaining a Dwelling for the Sale of a Controlled Substance, Sale of a Controlled Substance within 1,000 feet of a School, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On August 11, 2025, after consultation with the Alamance County District Attorneys Office, Rudd was charged with (2) count of Second-Degree Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and (1) count Fail to Register Sex Offender.

 

On September 11, 2025, Brian Curtis Rudd was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal Service in Lancaster, PA. Rudd was transported to a detention center in Lancaster, PA, where he is being held without bond, pending extradition back to Alamance County, North Carolina. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office Invictus Task Force representatives.
